1. Dwie formy: is i are

Wybór zależy wyłącznie od tego, co stoi zaraz po konstrukcji — jedna rzecz czy wiele.

• There is + jedna rzecz (albo coś niepoliczalnego)
• There are + wiele rzeczy
• skrót w mowie: there's (there are zwykle nie skracamy)

• There is a table in the room.— W pokoju jest stół.
• There are two chairs in the room.— W pokoju są dwa krzesła.
• There's milk in the fridge.— W lodówce jest mleko.

2. There nie znaczy tutaj „tam”

W tej konstrukcji there nie wskazuje miejsca — to puste słowo, które musi otwierać zdanie. Miejsce dopisujesz na końcu.

• budowa: There is / are + co + gdzie
• There is a shop on my street.
• porównaj: The shop is there. — tu there faktycznie znaczy „tam”

• There are many people in the shop.— W sklepie jest dużo ludzi.
• There is a problem.— Jest problem.

3. Przeczenie

Dokładasz not albo używasz słowa no. Obie wersje są poprawne.

• There isn't a bank here.
• There aren't any shops here.
• krócej: There is no bank here.

• There isn't any milk.— Nie ma mleka.
• There aren't any free tables.— Nie ma wolnych stolików.

4. Pytanie

Zamieniasz miejscami there i is/are — dokładnie tak jak przy zwykłym be.

• Are there any shops near here?
• krótkie odpowiedzi: Yes, there is. / No, there isn't.

• Is there a bus stop near here?— Czy jest tu w pobliżu przystanek?
