Stopień najwyższy przymiotników (Superlative) i przedimek THE

Superlative adjectives (the best, the biggest)

Gdy wybierasz absolutnego numer 1 z całej grupy (najwyższy budynek, najlepszy film, najdroższy hotel), używasz stopnia najwyższego. Pamiętaj: przed nim ZAWSZE stoi słówko THE.

Po co ci to

W stopniu najwyższym mówisz o czymś jedynym w swoim rodzaju, dlatego przedimek „the” jest obowiązkowy. Jeśli powiesz „He is best player”, native speaker poczuje brakujący element. Prawidłowo brzmi: „He is THE best player”.

1. Krótkie przymiotniki (1 sylaba): the + końcówka -est

Do krótkich słów dodajemy końcówkę -est, a przed całym przymiotnikiem stawiamy the:

  • old → the oldest (najstarszy)
  • tall → the tallest (najwyższy)
  • big → the biggest (podwojenie 'g')
  • easy → the easiest (y zamienia się w -iest)
  • Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world.— Mount Everest to najwyższa góra na świecie.
  • This is the easiest exercise in the book.— To najłatwiejsze ćwiczenie w książce.
  • Russia is the largest country by area.— Rosja to największy kraj pod względem powierzchni.

2. Długie przymiotniki (2 sylaby i więcej): THE MOST

Przed długimi przymiotnikami (np. expensive, comfortable, intelligent) stawiamy słówka the most (najbardziej). Sam przymiotnik pozostaje bez żadnych końcówek.

  • expensive → the most expensive (najdroższy)
  • beautiful → the most beautiful (najpiękniejszy)
  • popular → the most popular (najpopularniejszy)
  • This is the most expensive hotel in the city.— To najdroższy hotel w mieście.
  • Football is the most popular sport in Poland.— Piłka nożna to najpopularniejszy sport w Polsce.

3. Nieregularne wyjątki: the best, the worst

Podobnie jak w stopniu wyższym, te 3 przymiotniki mają unikalną formę:

  • good → better → the best (najlepszy)
  • bad → worse → the worst (najgorszy)
  • far → further → the furthest (najdalszy)
  • She is the best teacher I have ever had.— Ona jest najlepszą nauczycielką, jaką kiedykolwiek miałem.
  • Monday was the worst day of the week.— Poniedziałek był najgorszym dniem tygodnia.

4. Przyimki po stopniu najwyższym: IN czy OF?

Zwróć uwagę na przyimek, który określa grupę lub miejsce:

  • Dla miejsc, miast i zespołów używamy IN: in the world, in Poland, in the class, in the team
  • Dla okresów czasu i wyliczeń używamy OF: of the year, of all my friends
  • He is the fastest runner in the team.— On jest najszybszym biegaczem w drużynie.
  • July is the hottest month of the year.— Lipiec to najgorętszy miesiąc w roku.

Typowe błędy Polaków

  • He is tallest boy in class. He is the tallest boy in the class. Przed stopniem najwyższym ZAWSZE musi stać przedimek 'the': the tallest.
  • This is the most cheapest car. This is the cheapest car. Nie łączymy 'the most' z końcówką -est: the cheapest.
  • She is the best in all students. She is the best of all the students. Przy wyliczaniu grupy używamy 'of all', nie 'in all'.
  • It was the baddest film I have seen. It was the worst film I have seen. Bad stopniuje się nieregularnie: bad → worse → the worst.

Ściąga

  • Zawsze ze słówkiem THE: the tallest, the most expensive
  • Krótkie: the + czasownik + -est (the oldest, the biggest)
  • Długie: the most + przymiotnik (the most beautiful)
  • Nieregularne: the best (najlepszy), the worst (najgorszy)
